Review
I’ve never read a book by the author
before, so heading into this blind, I really had no clue what I was in for.
What I got though, was so much more than I bargained for and a book that was so
incredibly hard to put down once I started it.
Two former “child stars” (yeah I went
there with that silly moniker), Noah and Amelia are no strangers to the
spotlight. There also not strangers to each other. Having worked together in
the past and also having dated ten years before this story picks up. They’re
older, a little wiser and even though both have claimed to have moved on, it’s
quite apparent when thrown in each other’s paths again, that they’ve done
everything but move on.
They pretend of course, snarkiness coming
almost second nature as a defense mechanism to both of them, but from the
second they get on set together to bring a book adaption to life, all bets are
off. Their attraction is obvious, their feelings even more so (though Noah does
do a bang up job at first of keeping her guessing) and the chemistry both off
screen and on, is seriously off the charts.
And I loved every damn bit of it. The
darker side that they had to go to sexually speaking in terms of bringing this
movie to life, how well it played into their connection off screen and the two
of them together apart from that, all just working like a well-oiled machine.
These two really were the characters they
were portraying.
What I wasn’t expecting is the road that
this book was going to take in terms of the more suspenseful elements. Wow. The
story often times reading like something you’d see on the small screen or even
in the movies. It was brought to life in such a way that often times I forgot I
was reading a book.
What made me especially happy was how
long it took for the two of them to let their walls down. There was a bit of
push and pull at first, but once the reason for Noah balking in the past (and
even why he did it again in the future) happened, it was full steam ahead and I
fell in love with the both of them. Both together and apart. They never gave up on the other, often times being the strength the other needed and it was beautiful to witness.
But like any great story, just when you
think things are going to work out, that these two are going to get the happy
ending I believed quite frankly that they deserved, obstacles were thrown in
the way. Elements were brought to the table that threatened it and them. Making
you question whether they’d see the light at the end of the tunnel at all.
There were people I wanted to hug, people
I wanted to beat and then people I wanted to kill (when I didn’t want to just
steal Noah and kiss the shit out of him anyway) and I was invested for all of
it. From well-timed funny moments, to edge of your seat suspenseful ones, on top
of some pretty epic romantic and downright steamy ones, this series of three
books made for one hell of a read.
One that by books end, I was pleased as
punch with. Especially with the epilogue. I mean, how adorable was that?!
Perfect ending I’d say considering how it all began and what transpired over
the years for these two.
All in all, this was one of the best Hollywood
driven books that I’ve had the pleasure of reading in a while and definitely
one that I’m glad I took the chance on. The authors writing style, her ability
to engage us in her characters and their happy ending, is absolutely fantastic and something that should be experienced by all.
It's my hope that anyone taking a chance on this falls in love with Noah and Amelia the same way I did.
