The Contract

A tyrant by day, a
playboy by night. That is the reputation that precedes Richard VanRyan. He
lives life the way he wants, no concern for the opinion of others. He cares for
no one, is completely unrepentant, and he has no desire to change his ways.
Katharine Elliott
works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics,
but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job. Her
end goal is far more important than the daily abuse and demands she tolerates
from her nasty tyrant of a boss.
Until the day, he
asks her for something she never expected. A new role with a personal contract—
fiancée instead of PA.
What happens when two
people who loathe each other, have to live together and act as though they are
madly in love?
Sparks.
That’s what happens.
Can the power of love
really change a person?
Will they survive the
contract?
What do you do when
the one person you hate the most becomes the one person you can’t live without?

One of the best
things about romance for me is being a part of two people (who on the surface
you’d think wouldn’t really belong together), coming together in a way that is
both equal parts sweet and beautiful.
What makes it even better is the rare occasions you get to read a story where
one person has never known love or been loved, so you’re seeing it happen for
the first time. Those books, when done right, get me right in the gut every
single time, and this story, Richard more specifically, was no different.
It’s been said in countless reviews already that Richard VanRyan is an asshole,
and honestly, on paper he was. But this is where I read different than most. I
saw through that mask pretty early on and it wasn’t a specific instance that
did it. Just a feeling. So while he was barking orders and genuinely acting
like a piece of crap, all I did was laugh.
I saw him getting smacked upside the head by love long before it happened, so
his earlier behavior was amusing. His plan, once it was set in motion, even
more so. Because just like I saw different in him very early on, I saw the same
thing in his Katy. Katharine was a spitfire underneath it all and seeing that
side of her come out, basically knocking Richard on his ass was a beautiful
thing.
Everything about her, being everything I enjoy in a heroine.
The way in which this story was paced, how it started, how things slowly took
their time evolving and the aftermath of all of that, when realizations are
made, forgiveness is sought out and given and a real and true happily ever
after can be obtained, it was all as close to perfect as it can get for me in
fiction. Nothing moved lightning fast. It was a beautiful slow burn that
resulted in Richard not only being altered and changed as he learned what love
was, but me as well. I fell in love with them as they fell in love with each
other and trust me when I say, it was beautiful.
Painful at times, my heart hurting for the both of them with one specific
instance that happens, but much like the authors previous works, her taking
great care to put my heart back together again, much the same way she did with
her very own characters.
Low on drama, with the right amount of passion and feeling, I felt their love
story in my bones.
Smiles appearing on my face at the most random times, laughter spilling out
more than once over just how well they played off one another, and my heart
melting with each moment between them that seemed to alter Richard. Making him
the boy he once was (the man he should have grown into) and cheering when
reality smacked itself right into him, giving me what I knew from the start was
coming for him.
Add in the family dynamic Richard and Katy find themselves a part of, and my
love of that in the books I read lately, and quite frankly, this book was
everything I wished it to be and more. But after having falling in love with
this authors writing in her previous works, I should have expected nothing
less.
My thanks to the author and all others involved in letting me read this story
before its official release. This was a beautiful journey that I am so honored
to have gotten the chance to experience.

Melanie Moreland
lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved
husband of twenty-six-plus years. Nothing means more to her than her friends
and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them.
Known as the quiet
one with the big laugh, Melanie works at a local university and for its
football team. Her job, while demanding, is rewarding as she cheers on
her team to victory.
While seriously
addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and
technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to
sample. She loves to throw dinner parties, and also
enjoys travelling, here and abroad, but finds coming home is
always the best part of any trip.
Melanie delights in a
good romance story with some bumps along the way, but is a true
believer in happily ever after. When her head isn’t buried in a book, it
is bent over a keyboard, furiously typing away as her characters dictate their
creative storylines to her, often with a large glass of wine keeping her
company.
