I’ve loved Danny
since I was five.
He’s loved me longer.
It seemed destined
that we would be together, it seemed like the stars had aligned.
Then we grew up and
life got in the way.
He’s stepping up to
be president of the Motorcycle club we grew up in.
And I want no part in
it.
I want to be free, to
travel the world and experience life without violence.
He’s not willing to
give up the club.
I’m not willing to be
an old lady.
But giving him up is
like losing a part of myself.
Love isn’t easy.
Life certainly never
is.
The manacles he has
wrapped around me will hold me to him.
No matter how hard I
try to run.

When it comes to this
series, I go in expecting emotional. I can’t say that about many MC style
romances I’ve read over the years, basically because they’re usually rougher
around the edges, but here, I can.
The last two books
have been that way in varying degrees, but this one definitely has to take the
crown for it.
Even going in
expecting to feel something (whether it was hatred for the bad guys, large levels
of swoonage for our hero, annoyance with our heroine, or heart melting love for
the families), I still wasn’t prepared for the onslaught of feeling that
happened pretty much right off the first page.
But hit with an emotional
tidal wave I was, and as much as I’d like to say it evened out or let up the
more I read, it didn’t. It got harder before it could get better and then just
when I think that we’ve reached a point where it’s finally going to ease, BAM!
It happens again. Gutting me from the inside out. But that also by books end,
puts me and my heart back together nicely.
One of the selling
points to any MC romance I read is the suspense. I want to see it because just
from everything I’ve read and learned through my own research, this life is
wrought with complications. Outside influences and forces that don’t make it
the easiest life to live. Bella always delivers in that respect and she
definitely did here. In a way that damn near broke my heart and scared the
living crap out of me. In a way I wasn’t expecting at all, but had me on the
edge of my seat, desperate almost to see how it would all play out.
What also gets me
right in the gut is the emphasis that is always placed on the families. So not
only do I get one hell of a steamy romance between two imperfectly perfect
people, but I also get this bond that no matter what they face (and some of it,
especially here, is downright scary), only seems to make them stronger.
Strengthen them as a unit and as individuals. It’s such a beautiful addition to
such a raw and edgy story and no one does it quite like Bella.
The running Skye did,
what numerous people seemed to call her on, I gotta say, it annoyed me a little
for as long as it went on, but then sitting back and really thinking about it,
who’s to say I wouldn’t do the same when faced with everything she was. The
worries and fears she had. It’s scary and I’m glad that even with as annoying
as it could be, it was a very real reaction. Just like Danny’s was, even if at
times I wanted to smack him for not chasing after her (Lucas…sir, you are the
freaking man when it comes to this btw. Thanks for pulling my feelings straight
from my head). In a world of fiction,
the realism, it stood out. Giving me just another reason among many to enjoy
it.
This book isn’t easy,
the characters even less so, but what it is, is real, and even while the
situations they find themselves in is out of this world, I wouldn’t want to
change a thing because just like Skye and Danny (and all of the other players
within this story), it’s perfectly imperfect and is everything I expect from a
Bella Jewel book and more.
I can’t wait to see
where the author takes us next.
My thanks to the
author and all others involved for letting me read this before its official
release. This, much like the others, is a journey I’m so glad to have taken.
