Title: Amore Part Two
Author: Bella Jewel
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Suspense
Series or Standalone: Series - Duet (Amore #2)
Rating: ★★★★
Reviewer: Melyssa
After diving into the
first book in this duet, I eagerly awaited the release of this one because
there were so many secrets that were needing to be revealed, monsters that
needed to be stared down and well, our fair heroine all smack dab in the middle
of it with a big secret of her own.
I got what I wanted.
Secrets were revealed. Motivations were shown and at different points, even
battle lines were drawn. While I felt this installment didn’t focus quite on
the passion between Rafael and Juliette the way it did in the first one and
instead was more focused on the suspense, it didn’t leave me at a loss. I think
if anything, between the two books, everything was given equal billing. Even
with a few surprises to boot.
Fans of previous
Bella books will enjoy the appearance of some beloved characters, and maybe
newer Bella readers will fall in love with them and want to go back and find
out just who they are and why they play the parts they do here. It was
unexpected, but one of those surprises that you can’t help but smile and maybe
even fangirl out a little over because you’re getting the chance to see
characters you loved again.
Where this
installment fell a little flat for me was the time gap at the beginning. Yes,
there were a few instances shown of what took place during that time, which did
connect me, but for me personally, I wanted more. I felt like with all of those
months passing, there had to be something I was missing. Some twisted inner
workings that weren’t shown and it made me wonder a lot throughout. And then of
course, when we finally do get to the point where everything is out on the
table, and both Rafael and Juliette are aware of every piece that is at play in
their lives, I wanted more of them as it felt the ending seemed to come rather
quickly.
What did work was
watching Juliette become stronger, more assertive. Less driven by the passion
that was dripping between the two of them in the first book and more by her
need to protect. She may have still taken missteps, but they were done with a
different purpose this time around and I really enjoyed that. It was like watching
her come into her own. Taking the level of sassiness that was already there and
building on it with strength and honestly, the will of a mother.
And can I just say…Ajax,
lol. That was perfect. Way to piss off the world. It was great. Watching these
alpha males lose their minds over something as seemingly trivial as a name,
well it was humorous in a story that given the subject matter, you wouldn’t
expect to find it.
If you’ve read the
first installment, or are a fan of Bella Jewel and her stories at all, I think
you’ll enjoy this. And if this is your first outing by her, go back, read the
first book in the series and prepare to get sucked right in the same way I did.
You won’t regret it.
My thanks to the
author and all others involved for letting me read this before official release.
This was a crazy ride I’m thankful to have gotten the chance to take before the
rest of the world.
