War Poppy by Nicole Lynne is LIVE!
Blurb
PoppyLove and war.
Two words that should have little association, but to me the two go hand in
hand. Both are a tragedy. They rip you open and spit you out. The war killed my
husband, Connor, shattered my will to live, and took my best friend. Brandon
may not have physically died in that war, but his soul did. And now we're left
to pick up the wreckage. Expected to move on when all that is left is the ruins
of a life we once had. Brandon War. It took everything from me, even
myself. When you're only able to exist, death seems like a blessing. Pain...a
welcome distraction. I ran from everything associated with my past, and then
she found me, fighting, drowning myself in whisky, trying to forget. She
reminds me of Connor, of what I've lost—what we've lost. In the midst of
destruction, she's a salvation I don't deserve. I shouldn't love him. I
shouldn't love her. Love is a war we never should have fought.

There’s one thing I
can be sure of when it comes to these two authors.
Whether writing together or apart from one another, I am going to feel. I could feel disturbed, I could feel downright sickened. I could feel happy and elated, or depressed and sad, but with every book that passes between them, I will always feel something.
But I will go on record now and say to date, this one made me feel the most and if I had it in me to hate them for it, I would, but since I can’t hate them, I’ll just praise them for their uncanny ability to bring the feels instead.
This is not a book for the faint of heart. This is not a sunshine and roses story. I won’t go into detail about how it ends, but that’s not easy either. In fact, as concrete an ending as this story had, it still wrecked me.
War, whether you’re the person in combat or the loved ones on the sidelines is never easy. No one comes back the same person they were when they went in and this is very true of Brandon. There were shades of the boy he was before he went to combat with his best friend by his side, but they’re very rare.
He’s forever altered and so he should be. He’s also suffering with something that even on my worst day, I wouldn’t even wish on my worst enemy. He can’t see it, it’s not something that he can hold in his hands, but it’s there and its slowly stripping away at him, piece by piece, threatening to take and obliterate him.
Poppy though. Poppy can see this. Dealing with her own grief and needing the only thing in her life that seems to matter anymore, she sees straight into the deepest parts of Brandon and true to the way I think it happens with a lot of people suffering with PTSD (even though I’ve never personally experienced it), she does the only thing she can do, hold on tight, hope that he’ll come back to her and be the boy he once was and honestly, be the person that saves him.
She wants him to heal. She wants to heal herself and this is why this story was as moving as it was to me. They both needed to be saved from themselves in a manner of speaking, but when you’re the only one fighting, or you’re the only one holding on to even the smallest of hopes, it’s hard to save or be saved.
The journey these characters’ take is very raw, real and the authors shed a light on a very real illness and did so in a way that I think brings attention without being disrespectful or in any way over the top or out of this world. It read very real and my heart broke for what these characters and for what the very real people that suffer with this day in and day out go for. My heart bled, and at points in this story, my soul shattered with just how dark life truly was.
What losing Connor had done.
I could probably go on for days in terms of every feeling these authors brought out of me with the story they put forth, but I do believe I’ve made this review long enough. Just know that if you so choose to pick up this story, no matter what way it falls for you, it is going to alter your perception. It’s going to make you feel and if you’re anything like me, these characters won’t be the only ones hurting by the end of it.
Brilliantly written, War Poppy is a heartfelt, poignant, and very emotional read and giving it any less than five stars would be a travesty.
My thanks to the author and all others involved for letting me read this before official release. Poppy and Brandon’s journey is one I’m thrilled to have taken.

About the Authors
Stevie J. Cole
Stevie J. Cole lives
deep in the woods of Alabama with her husband and two precious daughters. She
studied Epidemiology concentrating on cancer research but has always had a
passion for writing. Some of her stories will strip you bare, some will give
you nightmares, but the one thing she can promise is that she will always give
you stories that make you feel.Raw. Gritty. Love. Because sometimes characters
need to be flawed.P.S. Stevie's greatest fear is the impending zombie
apocalypse. Think about it: swarming armies of decaying, oozing corpses
stumbling around with clicking teeth, trying to eat your face. Nothing about
that is good. NOTHING!
