Synopsis:
BLACKIE
My name is Blackie,
I’m the vice president of the Satan’s Knights MC and I’m an addict. I’ve
been trading one addiction for another for as long as I can remember. I
make no apologies for my addictions, nor do I try to hide them. Until my
latest addiction threatens to destroy not just me but her. For the first
time I want to fight the need and not gravitate towards it. I try to deny it
and not succumb to it but I’m a prisoner to her purity. I’m Satan’s
soldier, a demon dressed in leather. She’s an angel, innocent and full of
light, she’s my lace. Leather. Lace. Me. Her. A
temptation so lethal neither of us may survive but, every demon craves an
angel. Guide me to the light. Take me from the dark. Give me
back my life. Let me share yours. They are the selfish words of an
addict and they are my truth.
LACEY PARRISH
My name is Lacey
Parrish and I have a secret, one I’ve tried to deny for a long time, one I’ve
tried to spare the world from. I am a manic-depressive. Just like my
dad. Some days I’m high on life. Most days I try to escape it. People
think they know me, they think they see me but the truth is no one knows who I
really am. No one sees the real me… a broken girl with a mind that betrays her. Except
Blackie. He’s my savior, the man who silences my maker. He’s my
knight in shining armor, the man who puts my life before his. He’s my
leather and I’m his lace. Two broken souls that have the power to heal one
another. This is our story, an unapologetic tale full of temptations. A
love story called Leather and Lace.
A LETTER FROM THE AUTHOR
Dear Readers, Blackie
and Lacey’s love is not an easy story. It’s not about fluff and if you’re
looking to escape the reality of the world, this book is not for you. Lethal
Temptations is true to its title and while there is a love story between the
hero and heroine there is an individual story being told about each character. Blackie
is a drug addict. Lacey is mentally ill. They each suffer with the
demons that haunt them. Both issues are very much alive in our world and
most of us will experience the torment of addiction and, or, mental illness. If
not in ourselves than possibly through the people we love. The smiling
person beside you who appears perfect may be suffering in silence, afraid of
what society will say or more than that, afraid of admitting their truth. If
you or someone you love suffers from addiction or mental illness, it’s never
too late to find your voice and seek help. My wish for those in need is
that they find hope within the pages of Lethal Temptations because, you’re
temptations are only lethal if you allow them to be. Be heard. Your
voice is your weapon against the things that drag you down. May is mental
health awareness month, let’s turn society around and make it our bitch and
save the fractured souls that struggle on a daily basis. Below you will
find links on both addiction and mental health. Thank you for reading, Janine
The Keith Milano
Memorial Fund was established to help raise awareness about the devastating and
deadly disease that is mental illness. Keith’s spirit and laughter is kept
alive through our efforts to increase awareness about mental illness and to
raise money for education and imperative research. Keith often struggled with
society’s perception of mental illness. Our hope is that by having the strength
to say that Keith was “Bipolar” we can strip away the stigma and help others to
be more open about their disease.

It goes without
saying that right from the moment he first made an appearance in this series, I
was looking forward to Blackie’s story. Knowing right from the get that there
was one there. A heavy one no less, just based on the tidbits we were given
throughout each individual story.
What I wasn’t
entirely sure about, was who the woman would be that would change him. Bring
the man so drenched in darkness, back from the brink and more than that, back
into the light where god love him, he deserved to be. At least, I didn’t know
at first.
If you’ve read any of
the last three books, you’ll figure it out real quick just who it is and just
how much shit it’s inevitably going to cause. How forbidden it is even if it
just plain works. If it makes sense. Forget about ages, forget about who Lacey
Parrish is, or even who Blackie himself is. Put all of that away and just look
at these two incredibly resilient yet bruised and damaged people and you see
very quickly just how right they are for one another.
At least that’s how
it was for me.
This series, it’s
incredibly moving and there are a lot of heavy and darker aspects to it that
just pull at you emotionally, but this book, well, I’m pretty sure this one
takes the cake. I’ve been privileged enough to see the author incorporate and
bring to light serious real life issues in previous books, but no one does it
quite like this one.
Not only are we
staring down the very real face of addiction (in its many different forms), but
we’re also thrown straight into the mind of someone dealing with mental
illness. But where that has already been touched on before with Jack, you’re
seeing it manifest itself this time in Lacey. In a different way with a much
younger person.
I had to take many
breaks reading this story, which up until now, wasn’t an issue I faced with the
others and here’s why. Lacey, especially in the beginning, but even more so the
deeper you go into the story and the events that take place…it was
heartbreaking. You see instances in a very young version of herself where the
illness (her maker) takes over. Where it’s born and you see the result of it
and every single time the focus was brought around to the guilt she feels, the
tremendous pressure she put on herself for a situation that at such a young age
she had no real control over, well, it broke my heart. It made me cry and I
needed a break, multiple breaks because it was just that raw and real.
As someone that has
been diagnosed with a mental illness, and has also known many people in my life
that are also living with it on a day to day, this spoke to me so much and the
author earned my respect for dealing with such a sensitive issue in such a real
way.
Which brings me to
the other real issue she handled and earned my respect with. Blackie. The fight
he has his with demons, with his darkness and the light (in Lacey) that just
refuses to stop shining on him. It wasn’t pretty and a lot of times, it made you
sick before it made you better, but that’s what I enjoy most about Janine’s
stories. They aren’t all candy colored kisses and rainbow shooting unicorns.
You’re getting real people, in some very real (albeit out of this world) situations
who react in ways that are very organic, even if they aren’t the way you think
you’d act if in the same situation.
But through all that
darkness (and the freaking Bones references I lived and cried through again…thanks
for that by the way author lady), I pulled something else from this story. I
experienced hope. I experienced what happiness looks like when you make it out
of the war of your body and mind, and I experienced love. Lacey and Blackie,
even though their journey was not an easy one by any stretch of the imagination
gave me that.
And it’s those things
that I will take with me most now that the story is done. It is what will stick
with me long after the final page is turned. You’re never truly stuck in the
darkness. Sometimes, just sometimes, all you need to do is turn on the light. I’m
so glad I got to be a part of Lacey and Blackie doing just that.
My thanks to the author
and all others involved in letting me read an ARC of this beautiful story
before its official release. This is one that will stick with me always.
