Exclusive Excerpt
Everything about this
introduction was so awkward.
“Make yourself at home.
Open some wine. I just need a few more minutes to finish up and set an extra
place,” Zack said before disappearing into the kitchen area.
“What is this?” I hissed
through my teeth at Tariq. I needed some answers. I needed them now. “Why did
you bring me here?”
Tariq grabbed my elbow
and led me into the corner, out of sight. “Do you know who that is?” I
shrugged, clueless. “That is Zackary Knight, son of Corbin Knight.”
Wait? What? As in hotel
billionaire, Corbin Knight? Dollar signs briefly flashed before my eyes. Rows
and rows of them. But I was lost. “What does this have to do with me?”
“His father has been
concerned lately that his son is not getting out enough, meeting people,
meeting women. He’s my boss. He asked if I could arrange to find his son a companion.”
“A companion?” I
shrieked. “Like as in a—”
“Lower your voice,”
Tariq demanded.
“Is this your favor?” I
strained over my shoulder to get another look at the guy in the next room.
“Think of it more as an
opportunity. His father is willing to pay the right person. Big bucks.” Tariq
placed his hands on my shoulders and looked me in the eye. “You’re unemployed.
And I’m no fool, Kenna. I know that you did not leave Backsides on your own.
You need this, don’t you?”
I looked away and
swallowed.
“It’s easy money,” Tariq
said smoothly.
Money. That word always
changed everything.
“Would I have to sleep
with him?” I kept my voice even.
Tariq shuffled his
stance. “If that’s what he wants, yes.”
So by companion, he
meant prostitute. My insides twisted.
“Does he know about
this?” I motioned my head toward the kitchen.
“No, and that’s part of
the deal. Zack can never find out. You just do what you do, flirt, be beautiful
and follow my lead tonight. We’ll discuss it more later.”
Not many things rattled
me. This did. My hands started to shake. Another pay-for-sex transaction in
less than twenty-four hours. Was this the way people saw me, the way I
presented myself?
“Tariq, why did you call
me for this?”
“Because this is what
you do. This is your game. Men and money.”
“My game?”
“Yes, Kenna, your game.”
I closed my eyes. He was
right. It was useless to deny it. As far back as I could remember, men and
money had indeed been my game. If you considered all the things I’d done and
received as “gifts” with men over the years, then you needed to call me what I
was.
A hooker.

I’m a Ryan Ringbloom fan dude. There I
said it.
She writes books for peeps like me, with characters that I can get into. She’s been doing it for a year but I’m pretty sure this is my favorite one.
I dig Kenna. She’s not ur typical main character. She’s not even the typical female romantic lead in a book. She’s blunt, abrasive, determined and even though u see she clearly gives a crap the more u read, she comes across like she doesn’t at first.
Fell in love with that character. Female me except I don’t think I’ve ever been a hooker. Might need to double check that one though, so lemme get back to u. lol
There’s also something different in this book that wasn’t in any of her others. She wrote a dude that was damn near perfect. Zackary wasn’t the dude I was expecting when I read this. I mean I kinda figured he’d be decent cus she never writes a bad dude, but this guy was better than her others. I was gonna say he was a softie but uh, when u get into their love scenes he’s not lol
U writers and writing love scenes I gotta read on breaks at work and have issues with after. Meanie’s lol
Okay I know I’m joking around a lot in this review but I suck at these things.
If what Ryan writes is considered new adult romance than this is the new adult romance I like. It moves easily, keeps my attention and the characters and their connection seems pretty damn legit to me. I can believe in them. And I did that here.
I dug the way Kenna was affected by Zackary and how it went both ways. I hated the drama once the truth comes out. The way it all went down kinda made me sad considering how close they’d gotten but it made sense an in the end I think it made them stronger.
Don’t really know what else to say that u can’t get ur self from reading but Ryan, this is ur best one yet.
Thanks for letting me be a part of reading it.
