Goes without saying. If it’s Cassie Mae, I’m reading it.

She could completely flip the script and write something so unlike her I probably wouldn’t even realize it was her, and I’d still pick it up and read the hell out of it. Why? Well, because I can, but mostly because there’s just something about her writing style that I’m pretty sure by now I’m addicted to.

Humor. This book has it. In droves. From the first page, to the last, it’s drenched in humor and you know what? Sometimes that’s just the type of book you wanna plop yourself down and read. Especially when you’re tired of the ones that rip out your soul.

Cassie Mae is the guilty pleasure that I don’t feel at all guilty about reading.

Now if you’ve been following along, you meet Jace in Doing It for Love (Liz and Landon’s story). You don’t see a whole lot of him, but for the times he is there, he leaves quite the impression. Which meant that when I heard she was releasing a book for him, I may have squealed like a little kid on Christmas morning.

There was just something about this guy that made me want more. No. Not want. Need. I needed more and she delivered.

You know what stood out about this book too? What set it apart from the others I’ve been reading lately? It didn’t feature your standard Caucasian characters. Yeah, I know. I’ve got room to talk since that’s primarily what I write, but I like when authors switch things up and give us a look at characters in a main event setting that normally are regulated to the background. It was refreshing and different and made me wanna eat up this book even more than I did.

Shay also wasn’t your typical romance heroine either. When she wasn’t downright hilarious, she was ballsy and then just when you get used to her being that way, she switches the script (both on Jace and on us) and she’s soft and sweet and showing emotion.

Jace was right. Adorable women, they’re freaking dangerous! But these are the girls you run toward not away from and Jace was and is no exception. Shay wore him down in the best kind of way.

Now normally, when a book is a certain size, the pacing dictates that the romance, the coupling of the characters moved rather quickly. That didn’t happen here. It was well drawn out and by the time these two finally do act on what they’re beginning to feel after what could possibly be the worst road trip from hell (though for them, probably the best lol), I was more than ready.

Every cue had been set up and knocked down rather efficiently here so that I could believe in them together the same as I could believe in them apart. I swooned over Jace, I fell in love with Shay, both separate from their romantic entanglements and when I wasn’t falling and swooning, I was almost peeing my pants at how refreshingly real they were.

I also may have learned never to make fun of Elmo and to never get on Shay’s bad side. (You wouldn’t like her when she’s angry).

The references to popular televisions shows and the characters in them, along with the references to all things Marvel (how much do I want Jace’s Marvel pants omg), I loved them all. I identified with them because I’m a sucker for a good TV show or movie and once I’m into them, I’m damn near nerdy about them.

And when they would finish each other’s movie quotes? I was right there with them. LOL

Cassie Mae has outdone herself again with this book. Each one in this series isn’t quite like the other. The characters are refreshing and real and they’re the people you can imagine being friends with on a day to day. While the Hollywood aspect may be a little out of this world for the normal working stiff, the story was easily connectable because I could imagine getting into this kind of situation just like them.

Yet another book I’m glad I took the chance on and I can’t wait to see what Cassie Mae comes up with next. Or just how many laugh until I can’t breathe moments I’ll have, the same way I did here.

If you love rom-com’s, humor in general or romance that builds rather than just falls in, this book is going to be for you. If you like diversity in your characters, again, this one’s for you. Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed. I know I wasn’t.
