I’m not sure what it is about books that feature single parents (other than the kinship I feel toward the parent), but the ones I’ve read thus far, they always stand out to me.

Rolling in the Deep by Rebecca Rogers Maher is no exception.

Never having experienced this author before, I had no idea what I was in for when I requested this book from NetGalley, but now that I’m done, I’m so very glad that I reached out and requested it.

What a beautiful read.

It was short, but packed full of sweetness and was just the type of read I was after.

From the relationship between single mom Holly and her son, to the relationship that is sparked with her co-worker Ray, along with the tumultuous one present with her ex-husband, it all came together to create one hell of a great read for me.

This short little diddy was about more than just a romance between two similar yet different co-workers. It was about more than passion and sensuality (which were both present within the story). It was a story about growth as well. For both Holly AND Ray.

After winning the lottery and having their lives thrown into a tailspin, these two seemingly average and normal people have to somehow cope with the feelings that take place between them while also attempting to find a new normal. A new normal that comes when you hit the jackpot and become one of the luckiest, yet unlucky people in the world.

I enjoyed seeing the growth that takes place in Holly especially, finally finding the backbone and strength needed to stand up to that overbearing ex of hers. Also Ray finding a way to live his own dreams and not those that his mother had for him. It was gripping, beautiful and fulfilling by the time I turned the last page.

This being such a short read, the romance did move at a faster pace than it would have in a full length novel, but was still very realistic. The fear, confusion and everything else that comes with having your life altered, both in the monetary way and also the personal and romantic way, it was all very real to me. I can see this being a reaction that others would have placed in the same situation.

One of the brightest spots of this book by far though had to be Holly’s best friend Beth. I was standing and cheering when she didn’t back down from her friend and let her have it. Slamming reality and truth into her. Waking her up to what she should have known and been focused on all along. It was great. Yay for best friends that aren’t afraid to state the truth. Loved it.

If you’re looking for a short and sweet romance, with just the right tinge of drama that in the end with a pretty great HEA then this is the one for you. If you like seeing growth with your characters, again it’s for you. It was beautifully written and a story I am so glad I took a chance on.

I can’t wait to read more from this author. She definitely made a fan out of me.
