I understand how
adultery happens. I know, your first thought is “Of course you can — you’re a
cheater.” That’s true, but that’s certainly not the whole story.
That’s always what a cheater says, right? Once again, you are correct. If you’re looking for a typical romance, then run — run far.
After ten years of marriage I realized my husband barely touched me anymore. There was the obligational monthly sex, but even that was starting to fizzle. I was twenty-nine and he was thirty-two. We should’ve been doing it like bunnies, night and day, or at least a couple times a week, to be more realistic. But that hadn’t happened in years.
It didn’t hit me until I’d been gone a couple of weeks. Then when I got home we both fell asleep that night, me snuggled up against his back like we always slept. But that’s all we did. We just … slept.
No big deal you say?
Wrong. It was a very big deal.
It was the night I realized we had a real problem.
I have a choice to make, but I'm so torn. Do I stay where I'm at or do I go with Kaden, with the man who's showing me I still have a lot to live for...

Rating: ★★★★
I'm actually quite surprised at my reaction to this story.
There are a few things in my reading ventures, that I normally
won't touch strictly because I know that at the end of the day, I'll somehow
ignore how good the writing is, how decent the story itself is, and just focus
on the one element that I generally hate depicted in any form of fiction.
Cheating, infidelity, is the case and point with this book.
But that's exactly the reason I wanted to read this story, and
the one that will follow it soon. I wanted to throw myself out of a comfort
zone of stories and see if the way I felt before about this, was the way I felt
now, years after I made the original decision.
This author won me over with this book. Because, she wrote it
very real.
While I still hold true on my feelings in regards to cheating,
and still believe very strongly that the lead character should have spoken up
before it got to the point that it did, after reading this, I can also see the
other side of things. I'm not so black and white about it anymore. And I think
that's the point when reading something like this book. Going in with an open
mind, whether you change your mind after the fact or not.
There was a lot touched on here, in terms of the characters
marriage, their ages going in, circumstances, you name it, that actually made
me sit down and think about things. There were some feelings here that even I
could sympathize with, especially in terms of how she felt as a woman. Self
esteem related things, loss of self things. I could sympathize because at one
time or another I've felt that same way in my life.
Needless to say, I'm really glad I took the chance on this and
put myself in what was probably going to be an iffy situation review wise.
My only real complaint was the Then to Now chapter changes. I
would get into a groove and then be flipped around, back and forth a lot more
than I expected.
Otherwise this was a solid story and I'm really quite
intrigued to see how this plays out in the end. For all of the people involved
here.
