A second-chance romance as scorching hot as a baseball diamond in
August.
Slater "Savage" Harlow
Winning the MVP award for the Birmingham Bandits last year was the highlight of my baseball career. It was the culmination of childhood dreams, calculated adult decisions, sacrifice, and a hell of a lot of focus. Tearing my ACL in spring training? Not what I expected at all.
Now I'm home, in small town Georgia, rehabbing in the comfort of my own home, with people I know. I'm connecting with friends I haven't had time to talk to in years, spending days at home with my parents, and getting to watch my little brother play minor league baseball.
What I don't expect is to see Malone Fulcher walking into Del's Diner one morning while having my coffee and egg whites.
She's old flame, the one who got away, and the woman I compare all others to.
Malone Fulcher
Spending the summer in my hometown wasn't what I had planned, but it's what I need. Recovering from a hard year, both personally and professionally, I need to reconnect with who I am. When my mom encouraged me to come home and do some soul searching, I can't say no.
Memories are all over this small town, from the Baptist Church to the east field on my parents farm, to the diner. On my second day in town, I decide to go in, memories be damned.
I lost my breath as soon as I saw "Savage" Harlow sitting alone at a booth. Our eyes lock, my heart flutters, and my hands shake - all the same way they did back in high school. But back then we couldn't make it work. Going our separate ways to differing colleges, we decided we weren't meant to be.
A decade later, as soon as our eyes meet, I'm wondering if we were right, because those green eyes of his do nothing but take me to a past that I can see being my future.
Author's Note: This does end in somewhat of a cliffhanger!

We meet Slater Harlow
(Savage) toward the end of the Moonshine Task Force series, and right away,
given his interaction with his college roommates sister, I knew I wanted to
read more about him. Needed to know more about him.
What I’ve come to
love about this author is that she thinks like a reader when she’s writing, so
what I wanted, what I’m sure a lot of people reading the prior series wanted,
she delivered on.
Welcome to the love
me some Savage and need more of him STAT brigade.
Given that this is
also a second chance romance, stories that I usually love but that can easily
be hit or miss for me given how the relationship is handled, I wasn’t sure this
would live up to the hype I myself gave it when I ended the previous series.
It did.
For Slater, anyway.
Now, before people
lynch me, I think the entire point of the beginning stages of this first book
was to be pissed at her and come out believing that Slater smelled like roses.
Yes, they were young and honestly given what they both acknowledge when they
come back into each other’s lives years later, it most likely wouldn’t have worked,
but man, I would have loved to see it work. I’m secretly a sucker for high
school sweethearts too lol And Slater is tops for me.
Needless to say,
Malone had a lot to overcome with me, right up until the end, but she did it. I
also think the way at which their second coming was handled, slow and with
care, also played a huge part in that. Did both of them mess up along the way
at some point, sure. Old habits die hard apparently, but it all seemed very
natural.
I’m looking forward
to seeing where this couple goes, especially with the ending of this story, but
I’ve got no doubt that the author will deliver it masterfully.
Looking forward to
more equally swoon worthy moments, along with some steam, and also some growth
and emotional pull out of these characters to come. It wouldn’t be a book by
this author without those things.
Bring on the second book!
