Author: Marquita Valentine
Series: Take the Fall Series #2
Release Date: December 8, 2015
Synopsis

In the captivating new novel in Marquita Valentine’s Boys of the South spinoff series—perfect for readers of Abbi Glines and Katy Evans—a small-town sweetheart takes a chance on the bad boy who’s always been her hottest fantasy.

The last time Piper Ross saw her best friend’s sexy older brother, Jase Simmons, he was being taken away in handcuffs. Seven years later, two things haven’t changed: Piper is still head-over-heels in love with him . . . and Forrestville’s chief of police—Piper’s dad—still hates his guts. So when Piper sees a chance to get close to Jase, she makes her move—literally. As his new roommate, and as the office manager of his tattoo shop, Piper won’t be satisfied until Jase knows that she wants to be his.

The quintessential good girl, Piper is pure temptation for Jase. The only reason he’s always kept his distance is because she’s the last person he’d ever want to hurt. But once he realizes that Piper is ready to take the leap, everything just makes sense. Suddenly Jase feels like a new man—until nasty rumors start swirling and Piper’s heartless father stirs up even more trouble. Now Jase must convince Piper that she wasn’t wrong about him . . . because falling in love never felt so right.

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest spoiler free review.  I give 4 stars to When We Fall by Marquita Valentine.

This story is about Jase who was in prison for quite a few years for a mistake made when he was younger.  He's a "Bad Boy" that had a rough start in life but he paid for his past mistakes. He's from the wrong side of the tracks. Jase has a big heart and cares deeply for his loved ones.  He's known Piper since they were kids.  He cares deeply for her but will not admit it.  At first, Jase is portrayed at not being a very nice man.  He uses everyone to his own advantages.  Piper changes that for him.  He's very protective of her.

Piper as lived a very sheltered life up until now.  She's the "Good Girl" who's played by the rules all her life.   She's shy, awkward but as loved Jase since she was a teenager.  When her parents cut her off, she must learn to live on her own and find out who she really is.  She's loyal, sweet and Jase thinks she's way too good for the likes of him.  There will be ups and downs for them.  Will they thrive?

Overall the book was well written, good plot and well thought out. Although, I tend to have a difficult time when a story is told in a dual POV and switches rather quickly back and forth.  I have to put myself in the minds of the characters each time.  It's a drama filled, romance.  What I like about this author is that she introduces the characters that will be featured in the next book. She did it with the first and now the second. I would get a better feel of what's to come in the next story.  It builds the anticipation.  Great characters.

I would recommend this romance with an HEA.  Recommended for mature readers.  This is the second book in the A Take the Fall Novel series.  The first book is Take the Fall which introduces Jase and Piper.  It's still a standalone but I personally enjoyed it much more due to the fact that I read the first one first.
