Malone Fulcher
Savage walked away without so much as listening to what I had to say.

Stunning second part
and eventual ending to what began in the first book, On the DL.
Picking up right from
the frustrating little cliff-hanger the author left us on, we were taken a ride
that given the life that Slater leads, seemed very real, and very unique to
their particular set of circumstances.
Misunderstandings
from the end of book one, coupled with their already tense history in terms of
their relationship, I have to say that I wasn’t entirely sure how it would all
play out in the end.
Did I wish for the
two of them to be together? Sure did. Was I entirely sure, given the way Malone
reacted to pressure in the past, that it was sustainable? Not really. Malone
and her need to run, it scared me a little every time I felt things were
getting heavy.
But I enjoyed the journey
in finding out.
Much like previous
books in the past by this author, there isn’t any drama put in strictly for drama’s
sake, to create more tension. What was already there was believable tension all
on its own. The drama they do face, because let’s face it, we all face drama
especially when it comes to any sort of long standing relationship, was real to
them, and wasn’t too heavy. The author also utilized what I love to see in
fiction, which was just enough reality given the fictional nature of the book,
where conversations between people, real and true conversations, can heal and
fix things. So, hat’s off to the author lady for that. Was a nice little change
of pace for me to witness.
Overall, I enjoyed
this book as much as the first one, because where I look at that book as the two
of them coming together again, showing and sharing, and ultimately growing from
their past, this second one was definitely more focused on the growth of both
characters, and both of them as they grow, taking the other persons feelings
into account and being even more adult than they actually were based on their
ages. It was nice to see both of these grown people come together and build on
what their past had only started them on, journey wise.
I’m hoping in the future
for books maybe based around some of the other members of Slater’s team, since
they all seem very unique, with their own stories to tell.
But, as long as this
author keeps using these tools that work at pulling me in, keeping me invested,
I’ll take whatever comes next for her, and the characters that speak to her.
Beautiful duet that I’m
so glad I took and got the chance to read.
My thanks to the author
and all others involved in letting me read this before official release. Malone
and Slater’s journey was one that I was honored to take.
